A safety contact is someone outside your relationship, an in-app Kept user or an email address, notified if a safeword you've acknowledged goes unresolved past a timeout you choose. Adding one requires an explicit consent confirmation, and an in-app contact has to accept before they're active.
The session safety timer is a separate, shorter-horizon control: a Sub arms a countdown, five minutes to twelve hours, protected by a PIN. If it runs out, a five-minute grace period opens where the right PIN still disarms it; past that, or after too many wrong attempts, it escalates. A Dom sees the same timer for their Sub, read-only, so they know its state without being able to disarm it themselves.
